About Treehouse Preschool

Treehouse Preschool strives to create a loving, nurturing environment to develop the social, intellectual, physical, emotional, spiritual, and creative abilities of each child.

Our program is designed to build self-esteem, develop values and morals such as fairness and kindness, promote independence, and create an environment that encourages each child to create, explore, and discover the world around them in their own special way.

Academic experiences are developmentally appropriate and are rich with hands-on activities.

3-Year-Old Class

The Three-Year-Old Class meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00-11:30 am.

What to Expect in the Three-Year-Old Class:

One of the biggest focuses in the three-year-old room is their social development. We encourage the children to communicate, create, cooperate, follow a schedule, and think critically. These are skills that children need to develop over time to prepare themselves as they grow up and head off to school.

We incorporate the basics of preschool academics by working on a few key skills, including recognizing their name, correctly holding a pencil, tracing lines, and recognizing shapes and colors. We teach these critical skills through play and hands-on activities.

The three-year-old class participates in several field trips throughout the year, including a visit to a local grocery store and a trip to the Fun Farm.

Pre-K Class

Pre-K classes meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The AM class meets from 9:00-11:30 am and the PM class meets from 12:30-3:00 pm.

What to Expect in the Pre-K class:

Our Pre-K curriculum is designed to get kids ready for Kindergarten. Kindergarten readiness activities are focused on more structured learning and deeper skill building. Some of these activities include writing their name on their own, upper and lower case letter recognition, letter sound recognition, number and amount correlation, counting, sequence, patterns, and rhyming. However, these are just a few of the things we cover in Pre-K. Our teaching is designed to help students develop skills in early literacy, math, writing, and science so that they will be successful in school. We combine hands-on learning and exploration with classroom activities. Whereas the three-year-old class has more of a play-oriented learning style, the Pre-K class begins to introduce children to structured classroom learning.

In the end, the goal for Pre-K is simple: Make sure every child is ready for a Kindergarten classroom. While the three-year-old room is designed to adjust children to classroom life socially and emotionally, during their Pre-K year, children gain the academic skills necessary for Kindergarten.

The Pre-K classes participate in several field trips throughout the year, including a visit to the Kansas City Zoo and the Shatto Dairy Farm.

Jenna Olcott

Director, Treehouse Preschool

I took on the role as the Director of Treehouse Preschool in Summer 2022. This next year will be my 9th year with FUMC Treehouse Preschool, and I have taught 18 years of preschool. I think so much of this program and look forward to continuing the Treehouse tradition. I feel like preschool should be a positive and joyful experience for children. It is the first step of their education journey, and I'm honored to be a part of that. I live on a farm in Lawson with my husband, Frank, our four children, and my little dog named Ruby.

Megan Rosenboom

Assistant Director, Treehouse Preschool

I was excited to join the staff as the Assistant Director of Treehouse Preschool in August 2022. I have six years of experience teaching preschool. I grew up in Excelsior Springs and even attended Treehouse Preschool as a child! I have four kids and live in my dream home with my husband, Ethan. In my free time, I love to bake and work on my flower beds. I am passionate about children learning through play and preparing them for Kindergarden.
